Аутентификация Android Firebase не получает SMS с SDK выше 11.8.0

Я внедряю приложение для Android, которое использует Firebase для аутентификации моих пользователей,

Моя проблема в том, что после изменения зависимости Gradle от:

implementation 'com.google.firebase:firebase-auth:11.8.0'

Для любого более высокого версия SDK Мой код перестанет отправлять SMS-сообщения аутентификации..

Это происходит для любой версии SDK, доступной между текущими версиями 16.1.0 и 12.0.0.

Как только я вернусь к 11.8.0, все заработает, как и ожидалось...

С помощью Nouman Ch я добавил печать в onVerificationFailed() и увидел сообщение об ошибке:

com.google.firebase.auth.FirebaseAuthInvalidCredentialsException: The format of the phone number provided is incorrect. Please enter the phone number in a format that can be parsed into E.164 format. E.164 phone numbers are written in the format [+][country code][subscriber number including area code]. [ Invalid format. ]
