Но проблема в том, что прямо перед заголовком у меня будет некоторый контент, который будет прикреплен к верху (в .others), высота которого я не знаю.
В этом примере я установил произвольную высоту, чтобы продемонстрировать проблему. На самом деле эта высота может зависеть от страницы, на которой я разместил блоки header и content.

Я не думаю, что существует чистое решение CSS, когда высота динамическая. Разумное решение - поместить .others внутрь .head или поместить их в тот же div. Другой способ - использовать JS для установки top на любую высоту. Я знаю, что вы сказали, что не хотите этих решений, но если только вы не хотеть их, вам нужно пересмотреть, если вы хотите достичь этого.

Я бы выбрал решение API IntersectionObserver вместо position: sticky. имейте в виду поддержка браузера - например, для IE11 вам понадобится полифилл.
для современных браузеров это собственный API, который скажет, пересекается ли .others с окном просмотра или нет. если нет - значит он полностью скрыт наверху поэтому добавляем класс .fixed в .head, если да - удаляем

Что ж, к сожалению, я не думаю, что существует чистое решение CSS, которое могло бы решить эту проблему. Чтобы исправить элемент .head прямо под элементом .others, вам нужно знать высоту .others, чтобы правильно установить свойство top для .head. Но вы не можете получить высоту другого элемента только с помощью CSS / HTML. Просто невозможно установить для свойства top что-то вроде .others.height (). Надеюсь, кто-то другой сможет предложить вам другой подход.
